Freedom from guilt… Freedom from death… Freedom from judgment… Is that possible?
We all have guilt in one form or another. Everyone has to face death sometime. Are we certain that there is not some form of judgment waiting for us when we die? Are we free from the fear of death?
God tells us in this well known verse from the Gospel of John:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (New King James Version)
When it says that “God so loved the world”, the word “loved” means that He cherished us. And He still loves and cherishes us today. We are important to Him. He truly cares about us and our future.
The next phrase is that “He gave His only begotten Son”. Because of our sin and our guilt, we would have to face judgment for what we have done. God did not want us to face that judgment, so He sent His son to become a man, born in Bethlehem, named Jesus. His main purpose for coming, was so that he could take our sins on Himself, and pay the penalty for each one of them Himself.
Jesus was the Christ which means that He was the one anointed by God to save us from our sins. He was rejected by His own people who nailed Him to a wooden cross to kill Him. When He was on that cross, God put all of our sins on Him. God then judged those sins that He had put on Him, and Jesus paid the penalty for them. He died on that cross, sacrificing Himself, so that we would not have to be judged ourselves. Three days later He rose up from the dead. He was seen my many people after He came back to life, and at one point was seen by over 500 people at one time. He ate food and showed that He was alive with a physical body. This proved that He was the Christ, the Son of God. It also means that He is alive today and is able to give us eternal life.
The last part of John 3:16 says “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
This answers the question: What do I have to do to get everlasting or eternal life? The answer is that we need to believe in Him. It is that simple. To believe in someone means that we put our faith in that person. It means that we have faith that He can and will do what He says He will do. It means that we trust Him. First of all we need to believe that Jesus Christ died for us and rose again. We must believe that He is able to give us eternal life. We must also put our faith in Him, to give us that life. There is nothing we can do to earn it. It is purely a gift from God. We only need to put our faith in Him.
Jesus died for you. He cares about you and wants you to be free from sin and guilt and give you eternal life. Ask Him today to save you from judgment and give you everlasting life.
Lord Jesus, I believe that You died for me and rose again. I ask You to save me from the judgment I deserve and give me eternal life. I ask You to change me, and make me the person You want me to be. Thank you.
